NCGE contributes to European developments through the exchange of information on guidance provision and practice with other guidance and employment services, through the Euroguidance Centre both in Ireland and in other Member States of the EU.
Guidance in Europe is informed by the Education and Training 2020 (ET 2020) strategy for ʻsmart, sustainable and inclusive growthʼ. Of importance to guidance practitioners is the strategic objective to make lifelong learning and mobility a reality. This relies on implementing national lifelong learning strategies paying particular attention to the validation of non-formal and informal learning and guidance.

The European Commission funded the The European Lifelong Guidance Policy Network (ELGPN).
This aimed to assist the European Union Member States and the European Commission in developing European co-operation on lifelong guidance in both the education and employment sectors.
The purpose of the Network was to promote co-operation and systems development at member-country level in implementing the priorities identified in EU 2020 strategies and EU Resolutions on Lifelong Guidance (2004; 2008).
The Network was established in 2007 by the member-states; the Commission supported its activities under the Lifelong Learning Programme.
